Wolf Ridge Dining Hall
Helen and I spent a mid-October, 2014 Friday afternoon , Saturday, and Sunday morning at the Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center several miles east of Finland, MN on Lake County Road 6. We were participating in a Phenology workshop conducted by Jim Gilbert who is a naturalist in the Twin Cities area. Perhaps you have heard Jim on WCCO radio or read his weekly column in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Jim also has two books available:
Minnesota Nature Notes and Minnesota's Outdoor Wonders.
Wolf Ridge ELC, http://www.wolf-ridge.org, has a large campus and extensive programming mostly aimed at middle school students. Many of their programs are for school classes staying the entire week, but others are aimed at individual students, still others are for adults. The next several slides will give you a quick tour of the campus.
This is the dining hall--it can seat up to 400. We ate all our meals here, and despite all the outdoor activities and hiking, I gained weight over the weekend. They are growing much of the vegetables in their own greenhouse. The dining hall also has a extensive deck area on the rear of the building.
